Torry School – Large-Scale Underfloor Heating Installation

RBT Underfloor was appointed to design, supply and install a complete underfloor heating package for the new Torry School, delivering over 5,500m² of underfloor heating together with insulation and screed as part of one of our largest education sector projects.

Given the scale of the development, the works were carefully planned and delivered over six monthly phases. This programme allowed the main contractor to remain approximately four weeks ahead of our installation team, ensuring each area was fully prepared and ready for the next phase of works without impacting the overall construction schedule.

Following detailed pre-start meetings with the project team, all logistics were coordinated to maximise efficiency on site. Full-load articulated HGVs delivered the insulation directly from the factory, while pipework for the first three phases was supplied in advance to minimise delays. Manifolds and associated accessories were delivered at the beginning of each installation phase, ensuring materials were always available when required.

Each phase included the installation of insulation, bespoke underfloor heating pipework and manifold assemblies before the application of the screed. Upon completion of the installation works, RBT supplied and installed 20 steel manifold cabinets, before commissioning every heating circuit to verify the performance and integrity of the complete system.

Through meticulous planning, effective collaboration with the main contractor and a highly organised installation programme, RBT successfully delivered this extensive project without disruption, maintaining programme deadlines across every phase. The result is a robust, energy-efficient heating system that will provide reliable comfort and long-term performance for generations of pupils and staff.
